The short version

If you use our website, plugins, or services, here's the deal: we make good things, you pay a fair price when you buy them, we both behave reasonably, and if anything goes sideways we talk like adults. The legal language below covers the rest.

If you only read three lines:

  1. Free plugins are free, paid plugins are paid. Don't redistribute Pro builds you didn't pay for.
  2. We're not responsible for Spotify, your microphone, your speakers, or your browser — only for the code we wrote and the work we did for you.
  3. Anything we sell comes with a real human (Derek) at derek@dabl.ca. Email me if anything's off.

Who we are

DABL Tech Solutions is a Canadian sole-proprietorship operating from Calgary, Alberta.

  • Owner: Derek Little
  • Address: 4034 16th St SW, Calgary, AB T2T 4H4, Canada
  • Phone: (403) 690-4960
  • Email: derek@dabl.ca
  • Sites covered by these terms: dabl.ca, software.dabl.ca, and any product, plugin, service, or downloadable file we publish under the DABL name.

By using any DABL site or product, you agree to these terms.

What we sell

  • Local IT support in the Calgary area — remote and on-site
  • AI automation and custom web applications — built per-engagement, scoped and quoted individually
  • DABL plugins for WordPress — distributed in two tiers:
    • Lite tier — gifted to the community, available free on the WordPress.org plugin directory
    • Pro tier — purchased via software.dabl.ca, distributed directly to the buyer after payment

Plugin licenses

Lite plugins

  • Licensed under GPLv2 or later, matching WordPress's license. You can use, modify, and redistribute Lite plugins under those terms.
  • The "Powered by DABL" credit footer that ships with Lite plugins is part of the design; please don't strip it unless you've also bought a Pro license.

Pro plugins

  • Licensed under GPLv2 or later for the code itself (because WordPress requires it).
  • Your purchase grants you a commercial license to: install on the site(s) covered by your license tier, remove the "Powered by DABL" credit, receive updates and support for the term you paid for, and get priority response on bug reports and feature requests.
  • A Pro purchase does not include the right to redistribute the Pro build to third parties. You can share the GPL'd source code under GPL terms; you cannot resell or repackage Pro distributions as your own product.
  • Lifetime licenses, where offered, mean lifetime. We don't put a cap on it. You'll get every update we ever ship for that plugin.

Refunds on Pro plugins

  • 14-day no-questions-asked refund from date of purchase. Email derek@dabl.ca with your order number and we'll refund via Stripe within 1–3 business days.
  • After 14 days, refunds are case-by-case. If the plugin doesn't do what we said it does, we'll make it right.

Acceptable use

Don't do any of this with our sites, plugins, or services:

  • Reverse-engineer, decompile, or circumvent license checks in Pro builds to avoid paying
  • Use our plugins or services to harass anyone, infringe copyright, send spam, or commit fraud
  • Scrape our sites at a rate that disrupts service for other visitors
  • Misrepresent DABL software as your own product when redistributing
  • Use the DABL Pulse plugin in a way that violates Spotify's, Apple Music's, or any other connected service's terms — including using extended API access for data collection unrelated to the visualizer use case

If you break these rules, we may suspend your license, your access, or both, depending on severity.

DABL Pulse + Spotify integration

The DABL Pulse plugin includes optional Spotify integration. Things you should know:

  • The integration uses Spotify's official OAuth and Web Playback SDK. You connect with your own Spotify Premium account. We don't broker Spotify access for you.
  • DABL doesn't control Spotify's service, API availability, or terms. If Spotify changes its API or pulls a feature, the plugin adapts — but we can't guarantee any particular Spotify capability will work indefinitely.
  • The optional microphone feature analyzes audio entirely in your browser; we are not responsible for inaccurate beat detection, room acoustics, headphone-vs-speaker setup, or any other audio-environment factor outside the plugin's code.
  • Each WordPress site that installs DABL Pulse registers its own Spotify Developer App. The site operator (not DABL) is the controller of that Spotify integration on their site.

Service availability

We aim for the sites and plugin update servers to be up and reachable, but we don't guarantee any specific uptime percentage. Things break, hosting providers go down, the internet has bad days. If anything's down for more than a few hours and it's affecting your work, email Derek and we'll prioritize it.

We are not liable for downtime, missed sales, lost data, or any other consequential damages arising from a DABL site or plugin being unavailable. Maintain your own backups.

Payment

  • All prices are in Canadian dollars (CAD) unless explicitly noted.
  • Payment processing is handled by Stripe. We do not store your full credit card number; Stripe does, under their PCI-compliant infrastructure.
  • Recurring (annual) Pro licenses auto-renew on the anniversary of purchase. You can cancel auto-renewal any time before the renewal date via the link in your confirmation email or by emailing derek@dabl.ca. Cancelling does not refund the current term but stops the next renewal.

Warranty disclaimer

DABL sites, plugins, and services are provided "as is" and "as available". To the maximum extent permitted by Canadian law, we disclaim all express and implied warranties — including merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, and non-infringement. We do our best to ship quality work; we don't promise it will be free of all bugs or perfectly suit every conceivable use case.

This disclaimer does not limit any consumer-protection rights you have under provincial or federal Canadian law that cannot be waived by contract.

Limitation of liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law, DABL Tech Solutions and Derek Little are not liable for:

  • Indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages
  • Loss of profits, revenue, data, or business opportunity
  • Any damage caused by third-party services (Spotify, Apple Music, Stripe, WordPress core, hosting providers, etc.)
  • Damages exceeding the amount you paid us in the 12 months preceding the claim

If you didn't pay us anything (you're using a Lite plugin), our maximum aggregate liability to you is CAD $0, and you've gotten exactly what you paid for — which we hope is a generous and well-built tool.

Termination

You can stop using our sites or plugins any time. Uninstalling a plugin or closing your account terminates your right to use them.

We may suspend or terminate your access if you violate these terms, particularly the acceptable-use section, with or without notice depending on severity. We will refund the unused portion of any Pro license if we terminate without cause; we will not refund if termination is for cause (breach of these terms).

Governing law and disputes

These terms are governed by the laws of the Province of Alberta, Canada, without regard to conflict-of-laws principles. Any dispute that can't be worked out by talking to each other directly goes to the courts of Alberta, Canada.

If you're an EU consumer or otherwise have mandatory consumer-protection rights in your jurisdiction, those rights apply on top of (not instead of) what's written here.

Changes to these terms

We may update these terms occasionally — to reflect new products, new third-party services, or changes in law. When we do:

  • We update the "Last updated" date at the top.
  • For material changes (anything affecting payment, license scope, or your rights), we post a notice on the homepage at least 30 days before they take effect.
  • Continued use after the effective date means you accept the updated terms.

If you don't agree to an update, your remedy is to stop using the affected DABL site, plugin, or service before the update takes effect.
